The most rewarding accomplishments in life are often achieved when those follow their intuition and take the route less anticipated. This was the case with genre-bending recording artist, JNNA. Going to college in Santa Monica, JNNA went about her expected path of taking classes and going to her part time job. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t shake the idea of how much she truly loved singing and how she couldn’t envision doing anything else for the rest of her life. After finishing two years at her school, JNNA made the ultimate decision to act on her intuition and pursue her passion and with her remarkable talent, she has shown absolutely no signs of slowing down.
Growing up in La Canada, California, JNNA began to shape her craft at an early age by taking lessons with a vocal coach. At eight years old, JNNA’s passion for music was solidified with her first live performance in front of an audience. To this day, she still remembers being insanely nervous and singing Alicia Keys "If I Ain't Got You". In addition to her natural love for music and performing, JNNA cites her father as the biggest influence for pursuing her dream and all of the music that she makes. When JNNA was 20 years old, she lost her Dad, and while he was not a musician, she says a part of her is “always working to keep making him proud.”
JNNA has always had this very eclectic taste in music, and it’s something that is showcased through her own music. Her sound draws inspiration from artists including Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Adele, and Little Dragon. She loves taking an electronic vibe and incorporating in organic sounds such as guitar, bells, drums, strings, and more. Her music can be described as modern and soulful, with a voice that will make listeners hang on every word and feel an overwhelming sense of powerful emotion.
After just one listen of JNNA’s cover of Kelly Clarkson’s hit song, “Since U Been Gone,” her uniqueness and sheer talent will be quite evident. She takes the traditionally upbeat song and turns it into her own haunting yet ethereal tune, creating something irrefutably unforgettable. When JNNA manipulated the iconic song, the entire vibe and meaning changed; although the lyrics say "Since you've been gone I can breathe for the first time, I'm so moving on yeah yeah", after JNNA made her changes, it becomes a heartbreaking vibe of "Since you've been gone, I can't breathe and will not be able to move on". It is this intrinsic artistic understanding that will make JNNA a trailblazer in an ever-changing industry. JNNA’s goal as an artist is to create music that is relevant today but will also stand the test of time.
Outside of music, JNNA enjoys spending time with those she loves and creating new memories, the very memories that often go on to inspire her music. She also likes to take advantage of her time outdoors such as camping, going to the beach, and hiking. She is passionate about supporting charities such as Childhelp, ASPCA & Chrysalis – organizations that deal with issues such as child abuse, animal welfare and the homeless population. JNNA believes we are all ethically responsible to help those in need and takes time when she is not working to give back in these ways.
2017 is shaping up to be a breakout year for JNNA as she is set to release her EP of original music by the end of this year and hopes to take her songs on the road. She will also continue to collaborate with other artists, including an upcoming single with Tyzo Bloom. JNNA simply wants to inspire others -- the exact same way that music had inspired her to get out there and chase her dream.
JNNA currently resides in Los Angeles.
